He fills a time shuttle with gold bullion. He fights with Reagan and the shuttle's controls are accidentally adjusted during the affray. When the time beams hit the shuttle it isn't sent to the 23rd Century, but somewhere else.

It seems bizarre not to feature Old One Eye at this stage, but the interaction between Reagan and Carver is great and the cliffhanger ending is magnificent.
